Having completed our first 28 day broadcast on FM, during July, we’re keen to keep making radio for you and begin our revised programme schedule online, with live shows from 7pm-10pm Tuesday to Friday and from 3pm-10pm on Saturday and Sunday. We are starting earlier at weekends, with the continuation of the sports show with Andreas on Saturday and Andrew Chatterton, with folk, acoustic and alternative music on Sunday.
Plus, our soon to be improved listen again service will allow you to catch anything you miss.
We’d love to hear from you, too. What do you think of your local community radio station? Email us on studio@sydenhamradio.co.uk and give us your views.
Thank you for listening – and continue to do so.

SCR chairman Peter Aleksin had a surprise while presenting his show Hectic and Eclectic last Thursday (22nd July) when he was accosted by a group of SCR presenters presenting him with a special birthday cake on air.
Peter said “There’ve been many highlights on SCR over the last month whilst we’ve been broadcasting on 106.8 FM, but this beats the lot!”
(He doesn’t get cake very often).

Peter celebrates his birthday with some of the SCR team.

The 26th Lewisham People’s Day took place in Mountsfield Park, Catford on Saturday 10th July. The event hoped to attract around 30,000 people and saw 8 stages of music and arts as well as other activities, for all the family. Headliners were ‘The Beat’ and the day saw up to 1,000 local performers involved.
Sydenham Community Radio’s Ashley Cowan went along for us, to experience the atmosphere and talk to some of the people involved.

Ashley Cowan - Gaelic Sport in South London
Gaelic sports are very popular in South East London and there is a long history of GAA in the area, so for our Saturday sports programme we asked Ashley Cowan to find out more. He went to the Southwark Irish Festival to meet Tom Denning, Chairman of Dulwich Harps Football Club, who has been involved in one way or another for 30 years.
He spoke about the history of the games, which started in London in the 1940s and went on to explain some of the rules of Gaelic Football, a very fast game, and also Hurling. Tom is very keen to get children and young people involved and is running sports acadamies in the Summer.
Ashley also spoke to pupils from St Paul’s Academy in Abbey Wood, where 45 girls and boys take part in Gaelic sports, introduced to the school by Assistant Headteacher, Niall McCann. They were London Schools and Club Football champions, as well as All Britain champions in 2009.
Gaelic Sports are popular with males and females alike, and Ashley found out more about Camogie, the female version of Hurling from the Captain of Green Isle Club in Ladywell.
You can hear the sports show with Andreas, Saturday afternoons from 3 on Sydenham Community Radio. Along with a panel of guests, he takes a local at local, national and international competitions, including football, cricket, motor sport and cycling.

As Sydenham Community Radio continues to grow and evolve, we can now offer local businesses the opportunity to support our community radio station by linking their business with a specific programme of their choice.
We currently present 14 different shows every evening from Thursday to Sunday, which are of interest to many different sections of our community.
If you run a local business, why not support a programme of your choice and in return we’ll mention your business three times per hour.
You can support as many shows as you wish, for as long as you wish. And you’d be surprised at how little supporting a programme on Sydenham Community Radio can cost. Contributions start from as little as £5 per week.
Join us on our journey to create the best community radio station in London.
